At last, my two gear addictions converge! As someone who is an outspoken Deuter fanboy, and an avid photographer, seeing the small suite of Deuter Camera Gear is something of a dream come true of mine. Because of my existing collection of bags, and because the Camera Box One from Deuter fits any of their hiking packs that are 30L+, it seemed like a natural pick.
Surprise, surprise; I absolutely love this box and I use it all the time. Although it does have a top handle, I’ve never used it outside of one of my Deuter packs, it almost exclusively lives inside my 30L Futura.
The preamble for this one is going to be shorter than the others because, for the most part, what you see here is basically what you get; nothing here is complicated on a level that requires deep explanation.
This one gets a recommendation from me because of its perfect fit into existing deuter bags; if that’s you, then you won’t regret picking one of these up. Let’s jump into the Pros and Cons for potential buyers.
The number one pro is the seamless integration and functionality of The Deuter Camera Box One into existing Deuter bags. Any Deuter pack of 30L or larger, with the classic Duffle/Bucket style storage will fit this, no problem. The top flap, that fully unzips, can be partially unzipped just to reveal the top. A proper configuration will leave your camera accessible from this parentally opened state, while properly covering everything else. There are also exterior loops that could potentially fasten your Deuter Camera Box One in place.
Custom configuration is the other significant Pro here, there’s a lot of room here, and options for whatever you want it to be. Depending on your camera and lens sizes (I’m generally rocking a pretty bulky DSLR,) you could probably fit your camera, an on body lens, and maybe two or three more. The zippered flap also has some zipped mesh pockets that could hold random things like SD Cards, Filters and what not.
This thing is also pretty durable and robust despite its slim construction. I’ve really beat it up and put it through its passes, and it holds up!
I am at a little bit of a loss for specific Cons here, because for the most part, the Deuter Camera Box One is exactly what it should be. I guess you could say, as far as quality camera bags or inserts, it’s really no greater than anything you could find from Peak Design or Lowpro in terms of function or quality, except in the sense that it might be slightly more expensive (not by much, I might add). Unless you are pairing this with a Deuter hiking bag, I probably wouldn’t recommend it.

What can I say, you hike with Deuter Bags? You’re a photographer? Well, if the answer to those questions are yes, then you’re going to love the Deuter Camera Box One. I’m pretty outspoken about my singular love for the Deuter 30L Future, and this camera box is almost always in it.
There are a lot of Camera Cubes and Camera Insert style boxes out there, but none of them will be a perfect fir for your Deuter hiking bags like this one will.
