Baker Mountain
...Right Outside Saranac...

This description will be short and sweet, just like the climb. Baker is up the street from Saranac proper and is a VERY short climb. This is probably on of the best if you’re with a group that isn’t really prepared or capable of a big climb. The views here a pretty great as well, considering the amount of effort it takes to get there.

  • There are a handful of parking spots available near the trailhead, which is basically inside a small neighborhood, but it can fill up pretty quick.
  • This can be fun one in the winter as well, great place to familiarize yourself with new snowshoes or camp-ons.
There are several openings from which great views can be had.
On a clear day, views from Baker of the nearby residential areas are actually quite good.
This lookout near the top is a few steps out and down from the highest point of the peak.
The top of the mountain is sprawling and has many ledges with small lookouts.

Baker is basically a brisk walk with some mild elevation gain sprinkled in. Considering the fact that you drive up quite a ways to get to the trailhead, you also end up at a pretty high elevation and also end up getting some pretty good views.

-It’s a pretty decent one, and great for kids as well, nowhere near the worst Saranac 6er-

The actual “peak” here is mostly wooded but there are several smaller lookouts scattered across the side if you’re will to sprawl out and climb down a little bit. Often smaller climbs like this can become crowded from the groups looking for something easy, but generally there is enough room here to spread out.

Many points around the peak are mostly wooded.
I've completed Baker in the summer and the winter and both are pretty solid.
